BHARATHER'S DAUGHTER BREAKS COCONUTS OUTSIDE THE COURT PREMISES

The Colombo Magistrate Court today (April 24) ordered the IGP to investigate and submit a report on the alleged death threats that have been received by Hirunika Premachandra, daughter of the murdered former MP Baratha Lakshman Premachandra.

When the relevant case was brought before the court today, the attorneys representing Baratha Lakshman pointed out that Hirunika, who was a witness in the trial had received these threats and that the incidents were well recorded in the newspapers and the internet.

MP Duminda Silva’s defence attorneys stated that this was irrelevant in the case and that the court does not have the power to make an order on these accusations.

The court reminded the defence that it had the power to look into the matter as Hirunika was a witness in the case and then ordered the IGP to investigate the allegations and submit a report to the court.
